THE REVIEW LOOP

From scanned bank statement to Excel, with a review step.

Read the scan, check the row and keep the source. This tool uses AI-assisted visual extraction to interpret the document. It does not replace a careful comparison with the bank-issued statement.

Upload a clear page

Choose a scanned PDF, PNG or JPG. The converter counts PDF pages separately; an image counts as one page. Your account allowance applies before extraction. Keep every page in order and make sure the dates, amounts and balance column are visible. An unlocked digital PDF is usually the cleaner source when your bank offers one.

Find the uncertain fields

The result shows one editable transaction row for each posted item the model identifies. Amber labels point to specific dates, descriptions, references or numbers that may need another look. A lower row-level confidence score remains visible too. Clear-looking rows can still contain mistakes, so verify important amounts even when no field is flagged.

Compare before exporting

For a real upload, the source preview sits beside the extracted table on a wide screen. On a phone it appears above the rows. Check the first and last transaction on each page, large debits and credits, and the closing balance. Edit a cell when the original supports a correction, then download the reviewed data.

SCAN QUALITY

Give the small print a fair chance.

OCR quality depends more on legibility than on the file extension. A sharp photo can be more useful than a blurred PDF scan.

  1. Keep all four edgesDo not crop the date, description, amount or balance columns. Include page numbers and period details if they appear on the statement.
  2. Reduce blur and shadowsPhotograph the page flat, in even light, with the camera directly above it. Check the smallest transaction text before uploading.
  3. Inspect page breaksWrapped descriptions and balances carried onto another page are easy to misread. Compare rows on both sides of each break.
WHAT THE FLAGS MEAN

Uncertain does not mean unusable.

A field is marked when the extraction model cannot read or place it confidently. The best visible value remains in the editable table so you can compare it with the source. If a balance is not printed, it can remain blank; a missing number should not be invented just to make a worksheet look complete.

Field flags are guidance, not an automatic audit. Handwritten edits, reversals, overlapping rows and unfamiliar bank layouts may need extra human checking. When the model is unsure about an entire row, the row-level confidence indicator also asks for review. Corrections you make in the table are included in the downloaded files.

OCR QUESTIONS

Know the limits before you upload.

Use a statement you are authorized to process and keep the original for your records.

Can a photo of a bank statement become an Excel file?+

Yes. Upload a clear JPG or PNG photo, review the extracted rows beside the source, then choose the Excel .xlsx download. The workbook contains a Transactions sheet and extracted statement details. A photo with blur, glare or missing edges may need a better capture.

Does bank statement OCR work on scanned PDFs?+

Yes. Each PDF page counts toward your available page allowance. The tool can interpret visible transaction rows on scans, but it cannot recover text that is cut off or unreadable. Password-protected PDFs need an unlocked copy you are permitted to use.

What happens to the original preview?+

The comparison preview uses the file selected in your browser and disappears when you replace it, reset the workspace or leave the page. The original upload is not saved to account history. Signed-in conversion results may be saved separately; read our privacy policy for data handling details.

Which export should I choose after review?+

Choose Excel .xlsx for an editable workbook with statement details, or CSV for predictable transaction rows to map into another tool. JSON also preserves extracted metadata and warnings. Keep the source document alongside any export.

PRACTICE FIRST

Try the fictional sample, then use your own scan.

The sample in the workspace shows how a faint line leads to field-level review prompts without using a page allowance. For more source layouts, browse our fictional bank statement PDFs.
